Anthurium 'Delta Force' – A Stunning Botanical Addition for Enthusiasts

Anthurium Delta Force is a hybrid that dates back to the nineties, created by Steve Nock of Ree Gardens in Miami, Florida. A. 'Delta Force' is a select seedling from from the cross A. Clarinervium x A. Pedatoradiatum. The cross resulted in a number of seedlings, but only Delta Force had the unique deltoid (triangular) leaf with a distinctly narrow leaf tip. Such a hybrid has not been recreated through seed, even by Steve Nock himself after subsequent crossings of those 2 anthuriums.

A. 'Delta Force' can only be reproduced by clonal propagation through cuttings, which is a very long process for slow growing velvet anthuriums. These are tissue culture plants but are the genuine clone produced by our local collaborated lab.

Anthurium 'Delta Force' is an extraordinary hybrid, admired for its bold, triangular leaves and captivating appearance. The plant’s glossy, leathery leaves showcase striking white veins that stand out against their dark green backdrop. Each leaf features a sharp, arrow-shaped tip and wavy edges, giving the plant a sculptural and dynamic look that’s perfect for any indoor setting.

Anthurium 'Delta Force' is a must-have for collectors and houseplant lovers alike, offering a blend of sophistication and rarity that makes it an iconic choice for curated plant collections.

Key Features of Anthurium 'Delta Force':

  • Distinctive Leaf Shape: The triangular, deltoid leaves grow 20-30 cm long, ending in an eye-catching, arrow-like point.
  • Vivid Contrast: The dark green leaves are beautifully contrasted by bright white veins, enhancing their sculptural beauty.
  • Compact Growth: Reaching a height and spread of 40-60 cm, this plant fits perfectly in homes and offices.
  • Slow Growth: Its slow-growing nature adds to its rarity and appeal among plant enthusiasts.

Anthurium 'Delta Force' Overview:

  • Origin and Habitat: Originating from tropical forests, the parent species thrive in warm, humid, and shaded environments with temperatures between 18-25°C.
  • Growth Characteristics Indoors: Slow-growing and upright, Anthurium 'Delta Force' matures over time, making it a long-lasting addition to your home.
  • Ideal Location: Prefers bright, indirect light and stable humidity and temperature levels.

Caring for Anthurium 'Delta Force':

To ensure your Anthurium Delta Force thrives, replicate the tropical conditions its parent species enjoy. This plant is low-maintenance as long as it’s provided with the right care. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Light Needs: Place in bright, indirect light to encourage vibrant leaf growth. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
  • Watering: Let the top 2–3 cm of soil dry out before watering. Use filtered, room-temperature water to avoid mineral buildup, and ensure the soil isn’t soggy to prevent root rot.
  • Humidity: Thrives in humidity levels of 60–80%. Use a humidifier or cluster plants together to create a moisture-rich environment.
  • Temperature: Keep the temperature between 18–25°C. Avoid placing it near drafts or heating vents.
  • Soil Mix: A well-draining mix of orchid bark, perlite, and peat-free compost is ideal. Adding activated charcoal improves aeration and prevents fungal growth.
  • Fertilizing: Feed monthly with a diluted, balanced fertilizer, but avoid over-fertilizing as Anthuriums are sensitive to excessive salts.
  • Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years or when the roots become crowded. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.
  • Propagation: The best method of propagation is through division or stem cuttings with a healthy node for successful rooting.
  • Hydroponics: Anthurium 'Delta Force' can thrive in semi-hydroponic setups like LECA, as long as the roots remain moist but not submerged.
  • Pruning: Regularly remove yellowing or damaged leaves to maintain a neat and healthy appearance.

To promote optimal growth, replicate the tropical habitat of Anthurium Delta Force, maintaining warmth, high humidity, and well-draining soil. Clean the leaves regularly with a damp cloth to help with photosynthesis and maintain their natural gloss. If the leaves grow too large or heavy, support them with a moss pole or trellis to keep the plant stable.

Etymology & Background:

The name Anthurium comes from the Greek words ánthos (flower) and ourá (tail), referring to the tail-like spadix. The hybrid’s name, 'Delta Force,' refers to its triangular, delta-shaped leaves, giving it its distinctive appearance.
